Re: The Michigan thing, but also like. The UK thing, several us states, whatever.
Why do I, a person who does not live in Michigan, is not selling anything at all (currently), and has never even been to Michigan, have to care about the laws there to simply exist online?
Why are they trying to make me, someone who had zero say in this law, pay $100,000, and get 10-20 years in prison, along with a felony charge, for posting a selfie.
Why do I, someone who has never been to the UK, have to make sure everyone who visits this site from the UK is over 18. Block my site yourself, you’re the ones who don’t want me being seen there.
“Oh, but geoblocking places is easy, just do X” do you even know how long that block list could end up being? It should not be the responsibility of everyone who can spin up a web server to block countries where their content isn’t legal. It shouldn’t be my job to make sure people in a country I’ve barely heard of don’t see nude bodies just because the Powers That Be in another place don’t want their citizens seeing a nude body.
And more to the point for Michigan directly: This would 100% be a method of stripping transgender people of their voting rights. Because that’s what felonies do.
