Final Fantasy XIV: An Opinion Reborn
This is a rewrite of this article, since apparently I lost this. Just know that I played through ARR a while ago.
So. I played through A Realm Reborn, and finally finished it. It was… alright. I admittedly expected a 10/10 game going in, and got a solid… 3/10. My girlfriend’s beeing trying to get me to play it for a couple of years, and I finally have the spare cash to actually get into it, so I figured why not. It’s the award-winning MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV Online, with something about the Heavensward expansion. What could possibly go wrong.
Nothing went wrong, really, but very little went right, either. In terms of the story, it was… not good, to say the least. I think 3/10 is probably the lowest score I’ve given a game ever, really, and it’s earned it. There were very few parts that interested me, and even the ones that did I’ve already forgotten.
So far the post-game content (for ARR) has been alright, though. Hildibrand was worth slogging through ARR’s story, the skibidi mother fucker that he is.
In terms of gameplay, I’ve largely enjoyed myself. It’s an MMO, I expect very little from the story, but quite a bit from the gameplay, and it earns a solid 7/10 there. Nothing revolutionary, but I do get to play as a knee high anklebiter with a terrorism bent, so that gets it some bonus points.
I definitely had more to say in the first go-round of this, but that’s lost forever, so instead we get this shit. Now I just hope the mahjong post isn’t lost, because I will cry if I have to rewrite that. I just checked, and the mahjong post is gone. I’m gonna go cry. Either way, for gameplay this gets a 5.5/10, for story it gets a -0.5/10. C for gameplay, F for story. Would’ve gotten an A and a C were it not for the marketing emphasizing that this game was award winning when the first expansion feels like it’s done nothing right in a quest to do nothing wrong.
